The tests came back normal. So why do you still feel it?
You went in because your chest was tight and your heart would not slow down. They ran the tests. Everything came back clean. And instead of relief, you felt something closer to panic — because if nothing is wrong, then what is happening to you?
That reaction gets misread constantly, including by the person having it. It looks like refusing good news. It is not.
Here is what is actually going on. A normal result answers the question the clinic asked, which was is there damage. It does not answer the question you came in with, which was what is happening to me and will it happen again. Those are different questions, and only one of them got addressed.
So you leave with a clean scan and an unexplained experience, and your mind does what minds do with unexplained experiences: it keeps looking. It looks at your heartbeat. It looks at your breathing. It looks for the thing the tests must have missed.
The search is the symptom now. Not the chest tightness — the searching.
This is why "there's nothing wrong with you" so often makes things worse rather than better. It closes a door without opening one. The person still has an experience that needs explaining, and now they have been told there is nothing to explain.
What actually helps is a different sentence: this was real, your body really did that, and there is a name for the mechanism that made it happen. Not damage. A mechanism. Those are different, and the second one can be worked with.
If your tests came back normal and you still feel it — you are not being dramatic and you are not being difficult. You are holding a question that nobody answered yet.
If this helped, pass it on to someone going through the same thing.
